Names In the Running

People are already asking me what baby names I'm thinking of. That's okay, I don't mind the question, but I feel woefully unprepared to answer it. I really only have two I like right now, but I haven't put a lot of serious thought into it just yet.

For a girl, I like Rowen.

For a boy, I like Lex. Patrick says that's too Lex Lutherish, but I stand firm. Sounds cool to me. And cool is what it's all about, after all.

Rowen is cute. I like that allot. To be honest, I gotta side w/ Pat on the Lex thing though. I've always been quite partial to Conrad and Gabriel. But that's just me. Have fun pickin' names!

I like Rowen too.

A name like Lex gives you a lot of options. Most people would make it short for Lexington or something like, but there's no reason it couldn't come from MetropLEX or Guilt CompLEX. LOL.

"Rowen" sounds too close to the name of a former boyfriend of yours. Think about that.

awww, Joey... don't let a perfectly ex-ex hinder a good name...

actually... Rowan immediately brought to mind images of elves and Lord of the Rings type thoughts...

Lex is good... but Shannon... keep in mind things around him... like Lexus (or is it Lexis) cars... oh, please... I had to put up with sooooooo many jokes growing up... about VolksWagens... on account of my initials being VW... people were always drawing that litte VW inside the circle thing for me...

Maybe if I was naming a boy, I wouldn't choose it, but to me, I think of the tree, which is pretty and gaelic sounding.

Thanks for keeping up with my list of exes though. You really come in handy for that sort of thing.

Exactly... pretty and gaelic sounding... bring on the celtic music...

And if you do call my new nephew Lex... (which is okay... we just gotta get them to change Lexis to something else...) and anybody calls him a car... I promise to run them down with my Volkswagen...

You know the current Archbishop of Canterbury is named Rowan: Rowan Williams. He's even an honorary druid!

http://tinyurl.com/5o89k

"The son of Presbyterians who named him Rowan after a tree renowned for its magic qualities, Williams was made an honorary druid at a colourful pageant in Wales last year, laughing off suggestions the title made him some sort of pagan."

The name Lex is hella-cool. Don't listen to the haters.

Far be it from me to bring up your exes, but I was thinking about a one M. T. the other day and remembering the "incident" outside Vicksburg High School one night after rehearsal for the madrigal dinner.

Posted by: Joey Wolfe at October 14, 2004 10:04 PM

What's a madrigal dinner?

P.S. Lex is growing on me...

Posted by: Aunt Vickie at October 15, 2004 01:33 PM

The madrigal dinner was a medieval feast that our highschool choral departments put on. You ate a traditional medieval meal (served by wenches, aka ME) and enjoyed a humorous chaucer-like performance by the singers.

Really fun!

And Joseph, 'nuff with the reminiscing already!

Silence, wench!

Always consider the things people can make up to go with the name like ALWAYS adding "ie" to the end (except in my case I added it myself!) and the RHYMING games!! Now let me see I cannot think of anything that rhymes with "Lex"...hmmmm...(I think that's a cool name though.)

And I really like "Rowen", but be prepared for "rowing a boat" or something silly. I guess that's not too serious. Kid's can be so cruel though.

I'm sorry if I seem like such a damper, but I just went through all this with my daughter! We sat around and crossed off so MANY perfectly good names for the dumbest reasons: too short too long, too pretentious, too plain, too common, too country, too gubernatorial, and on and on.....

I like the name Rowan, but I would spell it with an "a" like the tree. "A"'s look more feminine, too, and since this is usually a guy's name (Rowanna? perhaps), looking fem. is good.

Did you know that "lex" is the Latin word for "law"? just curious.

Posted by: Jeannette at October 16, 2004 01:06 PM

Or Rowanne/Rowenne (for increased femininity)...sorry, it just occurred to me that perhaps I'm may a little obsessed with the f/m distinctions.

Posted by: Jeannette at October 16, 2004 01:08 PM

I love Rowenne, that looks so pretty! That's at the top of the list right now.
