This weekend was so great. Just what I needed!
We loaded up (including Patrick, who was surprisingly free from school work), and headed to my parent's house for a few days. The weather was great, and the kids played outside until they brought a new meaning to the word "dirty". My parents are tucked away in the woods with their own lake and creek and woods aplenty, so there was a lot to do. We romped around till dark, and Patrick gathered up some trees for his bonsai-ing. My mom and grandmother cooked an incredible supper, and I was under the same roof with all my siblings for the first time in AGES. Saturday night, we had a bonfire and made s'mores and told ghost stories. It couldn't have been anymore fun. Unless there had been a spacewalk, which is pretty durn cool.
Anyway, while I was there, my dad showed me the new Sims2 game he bought, and showed me how to get started.
This was a dangerous thing.
There is no other word for this game than ADDICTIVE. And the sad thing, I'm just horrible at it! I've created this terrible sims mother who has no maternal instinct whatsoever. The baby had FLIES buzzing around her, and I still couldn't convince her to change the diaper. Sims Mama was juggling compulsively as Sims Baby wailed for a bottle. Sims Mama went and got in bed and left Sims Baby on the porch at MIDNIGHT where she eventually cried herself to sleep. It was so sad.
So I brought it home.
I can do better, I can. I just need more time. You'll see! Really!! If I can get Sims Mama to attend some parenting classes, and get involved with the local mother's group, I'm sure she'll improve. Maybe a cooking class or two, and it wouldn't hurt to drop by the community center to see somebody about the compulsive juggling... I can do this. Yeah, it's a commitment, but Sims Baby deserves the best, and I'm going to be there for her.
There's no Social Services in the Sims game, right? I was really worried about that. Which kind of... worries me.
Oh - there is Sim Social Services - take it from me, the worst Sim Mom in existence.
With my first SIM child (A student and determined to get into private school) - I accidentally moved out all the adults from his house while he slept - effectively abandoning him. Needless to say, his grades dropped dramatically and he never made it into Private school
And as for my Sim baby - I thought for sure with 8 (8!) adults in the house the child would be well cared for - but they kept putting him on the floor (despite the very expensive crib I had purchased). The Sim Social Services came and took him away 1 hour before his ascent to adolesence.
Good luck. :) At least you're good with the real kids.

Posted by: Shannon at November 8, 2004 09:16 PMI had my sims baby taken from me as well. I also lost one of my guys b/c my brother, playing another game in the house next to mine, captured my guy, built a fence around him so he couldn't leave, and made him sleep in his own waste. I was very upset. My brother also plays my game when I'm not there. He takes away all doors and windows so no one can leave the house, and leaves a candle by the sofa. *cries* Rest in peace, Thomas and Myra. I had an entire graveyard at my house, all thanks to Reuben. And my kids wouldn't sleep b/c they would keep seeing ghosts. I gave up and stopped playing. But now that we have Sims on PS2...
Posted by: Took at November 9, 2004 01:04 PMThis makes me want to play Sims. I know I would get addicted to it too though. I just have no self control when it comes to video games, that's why I try to avoid them.I do have Sim Golf, which is pretty cool. When I turn it on I'm there for at least an hour - it's terrible.
But Sims could be so educational, right?! Wouldn't that be a great wedding gift? That's something we could both enjoy and all the while get absolutely nothing done.
Man, I really want to play it now!
Not only will Social Services to come take the babies away, there is also a Grim Reaper that will kill you if you have a fire! Get a phone and a fire extinquisher!
Posted by: Lori at November 9, 2004 08:33 PMOh Crap! I keep seeing the Sims commercial on TV and could never really figure out what it was about. Now I want one!!!!
