Lazy day, so let's do a Friday Five, for old time's sake!
1. What kind of computer do you have? (Mac, iBook, Dell, etc.) Toshiba Satellite laptop.
2. How old is it? Are you happy with it? One year old- and we're still crushing on it!
3. How many computers are in your household? (at home if you are away at school) Just the one.
4. What are your favorite games/timewasters on your computer? Spider solitaire is my favorite absolute time waster. Difficult level - I only win it every couple of months. My favorite game would be Sims2, if I'd go ahead and load the thing!
5. If money were no object, what kind of computer would you like to have? Like the Macs, so probably a top of the line desktop of their's.
Oh sweet hallelujah, tommorow is Friday!!!
FER-RYE-DAY, People!! Come on, get up out yer seats and say, "Yeah"
I can't hear you!
Now I remember why people like Fridays so much. They freaking rock. Goodbye office! Goodbye paperwork! Goodbye telephone that never stops ringing!!
Nah, it wasn't too bad, I actually had a very productive week, but still... a weekend is a glorious thing and I intend to make the most of it! If you see me, it will be in tennis shoes and comfy clothes and no makeup. And I'm probably the one sleeping on the couch, too.
Well, I'm off. I'll leave you with a good old standby, the Friday Five. Feel free to join in!
Have a lovely one everybody...
1. What was the last song you heard?Michelle Branch on the radio. I know she's uber-pop, but I like that chic.
2. What were the last two movies you saw?Hidalgo. I like horses as much as the next person, but pulease... enough already. Before that it was Dickie Roberts. We are now part of a class action suit to get our $4 back for that dismal failure of a movie. (oooh, I sound really peeved, don't I?!)
3. What were the last three things you purchased?Let's see. Guns. Drugs. Strippers. You know, the basics. Oh all right, really it's diapers, applejuice, and some lip gloss for moi.
4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?Finish my benefits paperwork for work, laundry, spend some time with the kids, and make a trip up to see P's parents.
5. Who are the last five people you talked to? not counting the people in the house, Amy V., my mom, Katy W., Rachel Huber, and a nice lady telemarketer for Bellsouth. I try to talk to her at least once a day, preferably right in the middle of making or eating dinner. It's such a nice interruption to my day. It's even more fun when it's not actually a person, but a recording. That makes it just that much more special.
Now, your turn!
Yes, I know, memes are the lazy man's blog entry, but sometimes, you need a break from all that brain stuff. Here's a new one I found, Thursday Thumb-Twiddler. (A classic game for the activity-impaired)
1. If you could have the*original* of anything, what would you want? Would you keep it for yourself, or would you share it with others? I would want something that belonged to an ancestor of mine: letters, bibles, jewelry, something really old and important in my family history. I sound like the Chief of Nerds, but that's what I'd like. Leave me alone. Or, maybe the original trillion dollar bill. That would be nice, too.
2. If you could carve your name in stone anywhere, where would it be? If I say Stonehenge, everybody would just freak out, wouldn't you? "Oh, not Stonehenge, you monster! It's one of the Seven Wonders of the blah blah blah..." Like *Stonehenge is all that great. Harumph. Actually, I'd feel bad carving my name into something, that's just the way my momma raised me
3. If you had a personal valet or maid who would perform one task for you each day, what would that task be? Would that be a good thing to have, or a bad thing? I would have them do the Laundry. Yes, that's a capital L. (You haven't seen this Laundry, it demands uppercase respect!) And yes, that would be a very, very good thing. No, wait, could they give foot massages? Scratch the laundry. I'll take the massage.
And now, if you, like me, having nothing better to say or do with your time, please feel free to twiddle your thumbs as well.
*::Despite current speculation, I do not, nor have I ever, had a grudge against Stonehenge.::
No Friday Five today. I'm too mad. I typed it all once, and inadvertantly ERASED it, after spending entirely too much time working on it anyway. ARGH!!! ARGH!!! Christin, or Jessie, you have to do it today.
On a side note, I really got a kick out of Survivor tonight! I wasn't expecting it to be as entertaining as it was, but I think it will be a good season. I like the big hairy guy. I also like the cheerful, pirate-ish tone to it.
You know what, yay for t.v.
Sure, it can be decrepid, tasteless, liberal trash alot of the time. But occasionally, I just wanna say, shut up about all that and let me watch my Survivor and C.S.I, and Alias.
So there.
The people have spoken and they want more, so here is today's Friday Five (more commonly known as "I can't think a single interesting topic to write about, so I'm taking the easy way out, and you can't stop me, so there!")
1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed? No, I got married, and since Patrick wouldn't concede to taking my last name, I had to take his. Curse that patriarchal society!
2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be? What a weird thought. Not to offend my parents, who named me, or my husband, who gave me his last name, but I'd change the WHOLE DANG THING. No, I'm kidding. I like my name. It would've been cool if I'd had hippie parents who gave me a nature name, like "Sycamore" or "River", but c'est la vie. Actually, I knew a girl named River in highschool, and she was, hmm. interesting. Her parents WERE hippies, and she would only bathe in natural bodies of waters. So, she stank most of the time. I guess that happens if the nearest natural water source is the Muddy Mississippi.
3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) My mom heard it and liked it, though she didn't like the girl she knew who had the name. I kinda wish she hadn't told me that part. Oh well. I inherited my middle name from an aunt and uncle. Slightly used, but in good condition.
4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why? I really dislike Yuppie names, or as Aaron would say, chuddy names, mostly because they lack imagination. I like names that mean something, have significance, or history to them.
5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it? It's pretty durn close. I don't know how they determined this stuff, I just hope there was no graveyard dirt and the death of a chicken involved. This is what they had to say:
The name of Shannon creates a very quiet, practical nature and a clever and inventive mind. Being analytical and naturally studious, you are interested in a factual understanding of the mysteries of life. Your methodical nature requires that you like to finish what you start without interruptions and also to have everything in its place and properly organized. An ability to concentrate could take you into computer programming or accountancy or any work requiring concentration and attention to detail. You have, also, a flair for creative expression with your hands. You take life seriously and can be easily and deeply hurt and go into moods which can be quite extreme at times, causing much turmoil and unhappiness. Finding it difficult to join in conversation with those with whom you are not well-acquainted, you could feel quite alone and uncommunicative with new acquaintances or in a large crowd. As a result, you could be accused of being unfriendly. You desire so much to be understood, but your name has limited your verbal expression to such an extent that it is very difficult for you to divulge your innermost thoughts even to those closest to you. One of your greatest salvations is being out in nature, for it is there that you find the peace and serenity you so much desire.
Your turn!
1. When was the last time you laughed? This morning!
2. Who was the last person you had an argument with? Patrick, the poor fella. That doesn't happen often though.
3. Who was the last person you emailed? Van, to make plans for this weekend. (how cool a name is that?)
4. When was the last time you bathed? This morning, thank you very much.
5. What was the last thing you ate? Corn Chex... yummy.
Getting to know Shannon, one Friday at a time.
1. What's the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country? That would be Kentucky. Backhills.
2. What's the most bizarre/unusual thing that's ever happened to you while traveling? On this trip to Kentucky, we took Sock Monkey, and took pictures of him sightseeing. I know, that's just plumb pitiful... But, I also learned how to milk a cow and churn butter, so that was fun.
3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go? Today, it would probably be Japan. Yesterday it was Scotland, but Japan today.
4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car? Plane is fast, so I'll go with that.
5. What's the next place on your list to visit? I dunno... probably North Carolina to see my great-grandmother, who is 105! Unbelievable.
The F5:
1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings? About 6, to feed Eli, then back to bed till 8ish.
2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late? Patrick and I take turns sleeping in - till about 10.
3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning? Moan. Then, get breakfast ready for Wrenn, pop on the cartoons - be a slug for about an hour. Oh, and check my email.
4. How long does it take to get ready for your day? About 3 minutes. (the perk of being a stay-at-home mom!)
5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast? Laughing. Hard. Out to breakfast??? I guess if I DID go out, it would be to Denny's, or IHOP. I'd say Wafflehouse, but that's reserved for more special occasions... lol.
Again folks, the Friday Five.
1. If your life were a movie, what would the title be?
"Extreme Measures".
2. What songs would be on the soundtrack?
Lots of techno, cause we'd be dancing a lot, running, sneaking around, scaling walls, setting traps, that kind of thing. Also, we'd be infiltrating really cool places, like Russian Nightclubs and high survellience buildings, so we need exciting music that goes well with black clothes.
3. Would it be a live-action film or animated? Why?
Live action so you get the full impact of the fight scenes and explosions and Matrix-like moments.
4. Casting: who would play you, members of your family, friends, etc?
Mila Jovovich would play me, Harrison Ford would be Patrick, Natalie Portman would play a much older Wrenn, and Jake Lloyd would be Eli. The kids only make cameos though, because it's just too dangerous for them. As a matter of fact, they may be kidnapped during most of the film until we rescue them at the end.
5. Describe the movie preview/trailer.
You come away slightly dizzy and intrigued, possibly confused, and you buy advance tickets and campout in line the night before just for good seats. YOU ARE NOT DISAPPOINTED. You highly anticipate the sequel, and I make millions of dollars.
Okay, today's Friday Five really SUCKED, so I decided to use an old one.
1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not? I do, actually. I'm just sitting around on my butt all day anyway. (lol)
2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone? My cousin Joey.
3. About how many telephones do you have at home? One, but it's portable so it goes all over, although I refuse to take it into the bathroom for any reason.
4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened? I accidentally called a wrong number two times in a row, and the lady was SO RUDE that she made me cry! (I'm not a cryer!) It was a business, so Patrick called back and spoke to this lady's boss and told him how ugly she was. It was unbelievable and totally unprovoked.
5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not? I think I'd rather write - because it's so nice to get mail!!
Okay, so that's the five for today, at least MY five. The others were so depressing, I just couldn't do it.
Time for the Friday Five.
1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
Yes, it was Erin R. in the 2nd grade. She was a hoot - we made mom videotape us doing commercials for hairspray, pepto, anything laying around. Priceless footage, people, priceless.
2. Are you still in touch with this person? No, but I hear about her through her mother occasionally.
3. Do you have a current close friend? Rachel H.
4. How did you become friends with this person? Through Auburn Ave. Church and eventually I moved where she lives, and we go to church together.
5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why? Yes, Catherine M. - she was an incredible, beautiful, smart, and fun person to be around. Awww... now I'm really missing her.
I'd like to add: Most of my closest friends are my family, believe it or not. That's sounds corny, but it's true.
